BUNGLING bobbies sent a £13,000 spy drone crashing into a river.  Officers lost control of the unmanned surveillance skycopter while testing it.

The drone, designed to help cops tackle anti-social behaviour and monitor traffic congestion, is now at the bottom of the River Mersey — and will probably never be found.  Merseyside Police have received cash from insurers over the incident but they have no plans to replace the mini-helicopter.

A force spokesman said: “It is believed that it lost battery power.”

This seems such a shame and short sighted of the force to decide not to replace the device.  In the future, just as the military are deploying more of them and are also now looking at use by front-line troops, it will only be a matter of time before they are fully adopted by the police.  Could such a surveillance device feature in one of your stories from either a positive or negative point of view?
